CONCLUDING POSTSCRIPT FROM CHRISTOPHER SCOTT The year is 2000, and Precious Death is a memory. A breeze. Something from
the past that slipped through my fingers and is gone. It has been 10 years since
this whole P.D. thing started and I'm still around to tell the tale. Many of you were
there with us from the beginning, and you should know that we treasure you in
our thoughts and memories. Thank you for giving us the great honor of being a
part of your lives and thank you for being a part of our. A lot has changed in
10 years. There is a word in theology that represents the process of becoming
holier over time as we walk with God, learning the Scriptures; learning the
limitations of our all too frail human nature; learning the sweetness of growing
in the grace of God. The Word is sanctification. And that is the Word that best
describes what P.D. has been for me. A wonderful, but often difficult, aspect of
the work of God in bringing about my sanctification. I'm a songwriter. Some of you
have found something in the songs that touched you. I believe that is the greatest
compliment a song writer can get. This band was formed around an aesthetic ideal
that colored and contoured the message as well as the music. The idea was that to
be a "Christian Artist" was not to different from being a "Christian mechanic", or
some other profession. The point is that you create the finest art you can, and the
very process of creation itself, when done to the glory of God, is the proper end of any
Christians work, including the Christian musician. That thought has been tempered a bit
over the years. I now tend to think that an artist who is a Christian has a higher responsibility
for his craft, simply because his craft communicates a message. A plumber who is a Christian
may do a poor plumb, and so, dishonor God, but there is no inherent message in the pipes.
Our view of the world, love, hate, family, good and evil, theology, death, life, and God himself,
is communicated in these songs. That seems to me to be a very great responsibility. And so,
I hope and pray that you have been edified, encouraged, strengthened, or built up in some
way by our work. I hope they helped you through a hard time, or gave you something good.
If nothing else I hope you enjoyed the songs, and if thatís all, then that is enough. One thing
that has not changed, except for the better, has been my love for Jesus Christ. When we started
all this, I was a brilliant example of zeal without knowledge. Those who knew me then know
well that I sometimes engaged my mouth before my brain; now I try to use both as often as
possible. When we began I was a single, liberal, pentecostal, arminian, dispensational, antinomian,
premillenialist. Now I am a married, conservative, reformed, Presbyterian, Calvinistic, theonomic,
postmillenialist (you should already know what all of these mean Christian.) Do you see what
strange things time does to the Christian soul? What I hope most of all is that I, that we, have
loved you well. Because you have certainly done so to us. Write to me at Metro One Records.
All letters will be answered. Or E-mail me at Agustn@aol.com May the grace and peace of God
our Father be upon you and your families unto a thousand generations. With all the love in my
heart,
CHRISTOPHER SCOTT-PRECIOUS DEATH
